Lost | Five Minute Friday

It’s Friday — time to write with absolute abandon.
Why? Because it’s Five Minute Friday at Lisa-Jo’s and
that’s what hundreds of us do on Friday.

So time to start the ticker and write for
a full five minutes full-out without editing or correcting
on just one word —

Lost can mean many things:

Feeling disconnected;

Unable to find your way in a strange city or town;

Estranged from your Lord and Savior;

Out of sorts with your spouse or a child;

In a quandary about how to get it all done in 24/7;

In the midst of a busy day and three little ones tugging at your legs;

Sorry you had that argument with your BFF and unable to
find the rights words to set things right;

Layoffs at work are making you crazy, afraid you’ll be next;

Moving across the country because of your husband’s job and
family too far away for those last-minute needs of a young mom;

And the list goes on — go ahead — add your own lost.

I have felt all these things in my life. All those moments of feeling lost. Despairing at what will happen next.

What to do when you feel lost? When I’m feeling lost for any reason, I turn to Jeremiah and this verse:

Whether you feel Him near, or hear His voice or nudging, God is always watchful. Always near.

God knows what every microcosm of your day is like. He knows your “lostness” and mine.

God is always ready to brace us up with His arms because He knows what’s ahead when we’re feeling lost. Trust Him, friends, with all your heart.

* * *

Stop for just a moment in your day when that feeling of “lostness” comes to you. In that moment, just ask God to help you. Simple as this: “God, please help me.” Or turn to a favorite verse of Scripture or song for centering.

Maybe in the comments you’ll share what you do during times like these.

  1. I wrote about God knowing exactly where we are even when we feel lost. What a relief that He sees all and is always present, even in the list of things you mentioned! Jeremiah 29:11 is just the reminder we need that He has a plan even when we feel lost! Great post! Thanks for the encouragement!

    • Melissa, I’m always amazed at the coincidences of post contents on LisaJo’s single word prompt. And today here I am again talking with someone who has written close to my own post. I’ll jump over to read it and leave a comment there too. He is a great relief in our lives, and the encouragement comes from Him through me.

  2. I enjoyed all your examples of being lost–there were so many I hadn’t thought of. Then the way you connected to the verse in Jeremiah was a wonderful example of how we can use God’s word in our time of “lostness.” Thanks for sharing your heart and for your comment on my blog too. 🙂

    • Thanks for stopping by! I enjoy your blog posts; there’s always something I need. When I was a MOPS mentor, I saw life through the eyes of a woman my age and amazed my moms with examples I would come up with. I guess nothing ever changes while we’re aging, except our bodies! Glad you enjoyed the post and hope to see you here again. Blessings!
