Who I Am

Hi, my name is Sherrey, and I am a child of God, wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma.  I’ve been married to Bob 32 years in August 2013.  As a retired legal secretary, let’s just say I’m still trying to rest up!  Born in TN, I had lived in the same city until Bob’s job moved our family to Portland, OR in 1983, and I LOVE IT here!

In May 2013, I completed five and a half years of volunteer work with Moreland Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) chapter, where I served as a mentor mom two years and then as the team leader for a group of five Mentor Moms, aka Wiser Older Women or WOWS the balance of the time.  Basically, that means we’ve “been there, done that” and are a shoulder to lean on for one of the moms in our group.  This was a ministry I had longed for all my life but didn’t know God had waiting for me in retirement.  I’m still passionate about assisting moms not only in parenting, life skills, the marriage relationship but also in their faith journey, or in finding one, and I do so every opportunity God shares with me.

I have always loved writing, and now in retirement I’ve drafted about one-third of my memoir and hope to complete this first draft by the end of 2013.  I write here and on my writing blog in the hopes of healing old scars and bridging the gap between hurts and forgiveness. Even if never published, the attempt will be a cathartic one for me and something I hope can help other family members or friends along the way.

Books are my best friends, and I always four or so going at one time. I review some for various publishers and the reviews will appear here. For an archive of past reviews, check out my Book Reviews page.

Hoping I’ll see you along the way!

  1. I love the idea of your WOW group. I was just talking about that last night with my writing group, about how it seems like many younger women are relying on the internet for their help and not taking advantage of of those who have “been there, done that.” Good luck with that work.

I’m going over to your Letters to Mama.

    • Christine, so glad you dropped by. Yes, a lot of our younger generation are “seeking” on the internet and there’s nothing better than an intentional one-on-one with a someone who’s “been there, done that.” Thanks for your encouragement.

Let's talk . . . I'd love to hear your thoughts.
